Corrupted bin files (Virus scanner and bin files)

Applies to: DdsPartner 5.1x and 6.2x

DDS drawing files have a .BIN extension which, as a hang over from the DOS definition, are considered as executable files by some virus scanners. A small number of anti-virus programs also add checksums to executable files, to allow them to identify when a program file has been modified, normally an indication of a virus attack.

As the DDS BIN files are project data files, that are constantly changing, this can mean that the virus scanner can currupt the data by assuming that the files have been attacked by a virus, and attempting to repair them. If you are having this problem, you should exclude BIN files from the file types scanned by the anti-virus program, refer to the program's help for information on how to do this.

How do I handle layer sets that combines several layer types

Applies to: 6.x

If you have a combination of layer types, e.g. a combination of electrical and architectural layers and want to make a layer-set that combines these layers (turn off some of the electrical layers and some of the architectural layers), this is the way to do it (can be used for other combinations than architect and electro):

  • Start with Architect, activate a layer set (or make a new layer set and save it)
  • Uncheck the "Only existing in the drawing"
  • Choose "All layer types" from the type drop list
  • Turn on/off any electrical layers you want to add
  • Save the layer set
